My First Last 24 Hours

I recently watched a documentary where each episode was the last 24 hours of a famous person’s life. It got me to thinking if I died today, what would my last 24 hours look like. I gotta say, it was pretty boring. You always hear to live each day as if it were your last. So I decided to give it a try.

My first day of living my last 24 hours, but not knowing it, I wanted to make a cheesecake. Sound strange? Keep in mind that I had purchased all the ingredients to make a pumpkin pecan cheesecake for Thanksgiving, but ran out of time and energy. I’d never made one, so this was going to be my big accomplishment for the day. The mixing was easy, the baking was complicated, but it tasted wonderful. Well worth it, but hardly exciting enough to boost any ratings. So, I decided to find a worthier cause. What? Well, all this talk about my last hours on earth, I thought of what a mess it would be for someone to dig through my personal affairs and understand them. I’m organized, but I’ve got a lot going on. I went through my desk, files, and projects. I wrote detailed notes on everything until the cramps in my hand forced me to stop. It may have taken all day, but most of my affairs were in order now. How did I end the day?  I told my children that I loved them, and I snuggled up with my cat for a little ‘cat-nap’. So ended my First-Last 24-hour Day.

I decided to get all the presents we give to neighbors, teachers, bus drivers, and mailman ready. I used to give trays of baked goods, then an ornament and candy, but this year I found some old fashioned peppermint-scented blocks of soap. I’m pairing it with candy canes and a card. I have 20 packages to get ready. read more Usually, my girls help and we do it over a few days. Not today, I spent the entire day getting them done and ready to be delivered. Then I inventoried stocking stuffers and updated Christmas lists with purchases. Did I mention I’m a list person?  What to do with the rest of the day? I would love to go see some faraway exotic place, but my finances don’t seem to be cooperating. I could pull up pictures online and imagine I was there. It’s too late to discover a cure or a new species. Then I look at the backyard and realize God already gave me my escape. It may need to be mowed, bushes need trimming, and the deck hosed off. However, there is a beautiful view of the setting sun, and then the bright twinkling stars. I may not have done anything grand today, but I was productive and with those closest to m. So, ended another day.

I prepared a huge feast for dinner. Due to my health,  I seldom cook anymore but wanted to give my family a break and have a nice hot meal ready when they came home. It was fun being back in the kitchen. I miss those days of preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Sadly, I find washing dished by had relaxing, and seldom used the dishwasher, which always seemed to leave unwanted particles and had to be rewashed anyway! I sat in front of the island and chopped vege’s by hand, sat in front of the stove to cook, and set the table like before. Then, I decided to make the most of my trip to the kitchen, so I pulled a chair into the pantry and re-organized the pantry, because I know they will appreciate it. I did the same with the laundry room, under bathroom and kitchen cabinets. Anywhere my chair and I fit, I re-organized. Good Times! Then ended another day.
